BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The U.S. Chamber of Commerce -- the world’s largest business organization -- announced today that it has made the significant decision to endorse Marty Grohman’s campaign for Maine’s First Congressional District.
Marty is the only Independent that the Chamber is endorsing during the 2018 election cycle.
The Chamber’s backing and the national support the endorsement entails mark a significant turning point in this race. Grohman’s opponent, Rep. Chellie Pingree, has an lifetime rating of 31 percent from the U.S. Chamber based on her votes against legislation to help businesses grow and the economy prosper.
“As a business owner and public servant, Marty Grohman is the kind of leader the nation needs in Washington, D.C.,” said Geoff O’Hara, vice president of Regional Affairs and Advocacy for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “The U.S. Chamber is proud to endorse Marty because he has a growth-oriented approach to governing, and he has proven his willingness to work across the aisle to get things done. We know he will make Maine proud as a member of Congress.”
The event was held at Volk Packaging Corporation’s facility in Biddeford and was emceed by Derek Volk, president of Volk Packaging.
“I am deeply honored to receive the endorsement of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in this race,” Grohman said at the event. “I’m a businessman myself. It’s clear that partisan gridlock means that our representatives in DC have taken their eye off the ball. Instead of focusing on Maine jobs and a better economy, they focus on fighting each other. It’s time for a change.”
The Chamber, which represents the interests of more than 3 million businesses nationwide, is known for its focus on job creation and economic growth. It frequently endorses pro-growth Republicans, but in this race, the Chamber is clear that the Independent candidate is the one that will best serve Maine and the country’s economy in Congress.
